Executive Headteacher’s Message

Determination Respect  Engagement  Ambition  Motivation  Success

In a unique, nurturing, caring, and supportive environment, we provide the opportunity for our students to get back on track, to access education, make progress, and change the direction of their lives.

Where possible we aim to return students to a mainstream. We will work to ensure the education students receive whilst at the Trafford Alternative Education Provision is tailored to meet their individual needs and designed to give them the skills to improve their life chances. All students have every opportunity to gain accreditation/qualifications for their future

We are ready to work as a team working with parent, carers, and outside agencies to transform education and demonstrate to our students that they can be as successful as they want to be.

Trafford Alternative Education Provision offers a balanced broad relevant curriculum that takes into consideration the academic, spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental, and physical development of the child and also attempts to prepare them to become well-adjusted members of the wider community. The curriculum takes into account the requirements of the National Curriculum wherever possible and the learning environment aims to focus on individual needs, interests and concerns, yet requires students to work collaboratively and develop their social skills with an emphasis on activities that encourage team building, positive behaviour, and interaction as well as developing a strong sense of self-esteem.

Trafford Alternative Education Provision houses two discrete educational services

Trafford High School has provision for 32 full time places. The majority of students have been permanently excluded from school and will be allocated a further school following a period at the TAEP. The school also provides ‘Step Out’ places for those students whose behaviour is a cause for concern and schools require additional support and assessment. Several students are placed at the school during their formal assessment period and before moving to a special school. Some students are dual registered with a mainstream school. Some students attend school as a result of problematic behaviour in their mainstream school, often leading to exclusion or periods of non-attendance.

Trafford Medical Education Service provides 28 equivalent on-site educational placements or home tuition for students whose social, emotional, or mental health needs create a barrier to their attendance at mainstream school.

Trafford Alternative Education Provision has good working relationships with secondary schools as well as external agencies including: Social Services, MST, Youth Offending, Connexions, dedicated School Nurse, and the Police. Attendance at the Secondary Headteacher meeting means that the school can work in a pro-active way with all schools in the area, to support them as an alternative to permanent exclusion or school refusal and allow students to obtain specialist support to enable them, where possible, to be fully reintegrated into mainstream life effectively.
